frequently asked questions

1. How does the design process begin?
We kick things off by translating your initial ideas into a conceptual image and an estimate. This is based on what you’ve shared with us via:
-
Email input
-
Sketches
-
Inspiration photos
-
Site photos or architectural plans
🛠️ This stage is:
-
Conceptual and not final
-
Meant to encourage dialogue and refine your vision
-
Based on early site measurements or rough plans
2. What is your lead time?
Here at Rootcraft, we don’t operate on a standard weekly lead time (e.g., 8, 12, or 16 weeks). Because we’re a local shop, we have the ability to work on a first come, first served basis. A 50% deposit secures your spot in our build schedule. If you're ready to move forward, placing your deposit is the best way to reserve your place in line. For the most up-to-date schedule, please inquire during the preliminary estimating phase.
3. What’s required to move forward with my project?
To begin detailed production drawings, we require a non-refundable, nontaxable 50% deposit. This:
-
Reserves your place in our production schedule
-
Covers initial build costs
-
Is applied toward your final balance
💡 Includes:
-
Up to 3 revisions
-
Additional revisions beyond that will incur hourly design fees
4. What happens after I pay the deposit?
We develop a functional layout using rough-in measurements (from you, your builder, or your plans).
At this point:
-
Cabinet sizes and general layout are introduced
-
Dimensions are not final
-
Your feedback is encouraged to refine the vision
5. What’s in the second draft?
We fine-tune the design and introduce technical specifications, still based on rough-in measurements.
This draft includes:
-
Your appliance selections
-
Detailed elevations of cabinets and accessories
-
Placement of plumbing and electrical elements
✅ This helps trades proceed confidently with framing and rough-ins.
6. When is the site measured, and by whom?
Once your project site is ready (framed, with rough plumbing and electrical in place), one of our Rootcraft team members will come out and take final measurements.
This ensures:
-
Drawing accuracy before production
-
Fewer surprises during installation
📅 Typically happens just before production begins
7. What’s included in the final draft?
This version is based on precise, site-confirmed measurements and is considered production-ready.
🔒 At this stage:
-
Final dimensions are locked in
-
Material selections — including paint color and wood finish — should be finalized. Samples are available to view in the Rootcraft showroom
-
Changes may incur additional design fees
-
Client sign-off is required to proceed to production
8. When is the final payment due?
We’ll send your balance payment invoice (remaining 50%) once production is nearing completion.
💵 This must be paid before delivery.
9. How does delivery work?
Delivery is coordinated near the end of production. Due to the nature of custom work, timelines are fluid and scheduled at Rootcraft’s discretion.
📦 Delivery details:
-
Managed by a third-party company
-
Free within 30 miles of their terminal; extra fee applies beyond that
-
Delivered to garage or ground-level entry only (no stairs or basements)
-
Delivery personnel use discretion on drop-off location
📦 Important:
-
Cabinets must be accepted on-site when delivered
-
Off-site storage (if needed) is at client’s expense
-
Temporary storage at Rootcraft may be possible but is not guaranteed
10. Do you provide installation services?
Rootcraft does not directly provide installation services, but for clients who want extra assurance and a seamless handoff from design to installation, Rootcraft offers an on-site consultation with Joe at the start of installation. During this session, Joe will meet with your builder, installer, or trades on-site to review the cabinetry drawings in detail and answer any site-specific questions.
This optional service:
-
Ensures alignment between design intent and installation execution
-
Clarifies tricky details such as appliance clearances, trim conditions, and specialty cabinet features
-
Confirms installation sequence and priorities with your trades
-
Discusses adjustments for site conditions before work begins
-
Provides your installer with direct communication from Rootcraft’s owner
-
Reduces the risk of delays, miscommunication, or costly adjustments later
Think of it as giving your team the confidence to translate the blueprint into a flawless installation.
💲 Available for $250 (up to 2 hours)
